For use in the Closed Bronze divisions at NDCA competitions the American Style Bronze list of allowable figures and elements will become effective beginning in July of 2006. PLEASE read this carefully and make your suggestions for improvement known at this time. We would like as much input as possible before this new rule goes into effect.

The following is a list of the only allowable figures and elements (or restrictions) up to and including the intermediate bronze level to be used in NDCA recognized Events.
American Style Waltz
1. Left Closed/Box (Reverse) Turn - Right Closed/Box (Natural) Turn
2. Forward Progressive/Change Step, right foot or left foot
3. Ladies Underarm Turn to the Right - two Bars/Measures
4. Balance Steps/Hesitations (in closed hold only)
5. Closed Twinkles (may be danced in any direction)
6. Natural Spin Turn (same as International Style)
7. Forward Twist to Left from P.P.
8. Syncopated Promenade Chasse (ending in P.P.)
10. Open Work: Open work in Bronze Waltz is limited to single or double hand holds, and may not last for more than four consecutive Bars/Measures. Partners may not completely separate. Open work may not comprise more than 25 of any routine. No continuity style in Bronze Waltz, feet must be closed on three except on allowed figures. No syncopated underarm turns. No foot changes/fakes, partners must always be on opposite feet. Both feet must remain close to the floor at all times. (No aerial ronde', developed etc).
American Style Tango

APPENDIX II - Restricted Figures and Elements through Full Bronze

The following is a list of figures and elements that are not allowed for students dancing in the Full Bronze category in NDCA recognized Events.
American Style Waltz
Elements not allowed in Full Bronze Level:
• Parallel finishes (continuity endings)
• Consecutive pivots left or right, one (1) pivot is allowed
• Open left or right box turns
• Fallaway reverse turn, or slip pivot from fallaway
• Any picture lines or figures (i.e. contra check, chair, oversways, lunges, etc.)
• Any solo, shadow, or same foot figures
• Any syncopations other than the chasses
• Open work is limited to single or double hand hold and must finish by the end of the sixth (6th) measure of music with the feet closed
• Progressive twinkles must finish by the end of the sixth (6th) measure of music with the feet closed
• Both feet must remain close to the floor at all times (no aerial ronde, develope, etc.)
American Style Tango
Elements not allowed in Full Bronze Level:
• Any shadow, solo, or same foot figures
• More than four (4) quicks consecutively
• Any syncopations
• Any picture lines or figures (i.e. contra check, chairs, oversways, lunges, etc. - Corte is allowed)
• Fallaway reverser turns of any kind or slip pivots from fallaway
• Consecutive pivots left or right, one (1) pivot is allowed
• Open work is limited to single or double hand hold and may not last for more than 16 beats of music
• Both feet must remain close to the floor at all times (no aerial ronde, develope, etc.)
American Style Foxtrot
Elements not allowed in Full Bronze Level:
• Parallel finishes (ocntinuity endings)
• Consecutive pivots right or left, one (1) pivot is allowed
• Open left or right box turns
• Any syncopations
• Any picture lines or figures (i.e. oversways, contra check, chair, lunges, etc.)
• Fallaways of any kind or slip pivot from fallaway

• Open work is limited to single or double hand hold and must finish by the end of the sixth (6th) measure of music with the feet closed
• No more than eight (8) quicks, or 2 measures, of a grapevine action and it must finish with the feet closed
• Progressive twinkles must finish by the end of the sixth (6th) measure of music with the feet closed
• Both feet must remain close to the floor at all times (no aerial ronde, develope, etc.)
American Style Viennese Waltz
Elements not allowed in Full Bronze Level:
• Open left or right box turns
